DESCO Completes Phillips Academy Maker Space
DESCO Company completed the Maker Space and students, faculty and staff christened the Phillips Academy Makerspace on Wednesday, September 23 with a pizza party and activities centered around innovation, teamwork and creativity.
The Makerspace, located on the lower level of the Oliver Wendell Holmes Library, aims to serve as a hub for design thinking, collaboration and experiential learning. In additional to the physical space being used by campus clubs and interdisciplinary classes, the space will provide students an outlet for unstructured, non-curricular experimentation and exploration. The room features a whiteboard wall, movable furniture, 3-D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters and a removable partition wall.
The Makerspace is run by the Oliver Wendell Holmes Library in close partnership with the Tang Institute and Office of Information Technology.
